Carpenters fee by the hour and you also have to wait in line for them to have time to come and do what you need. Follow these simple instructions and you can eliminate that bothersome door knob that sticks or does not work anymore in a couple of minutes without breaking a sweat. This manual applies to standard knobs that are found throughout your property, if you want to change the front door knob, nicely, that is not the same story which we will deal with in a separate article. The very first thing to do would be to go outside and find the new doorknob, decide on the one you like even if it's different to the ones you already have around your house. The mechanism in all of them functions in much the exact same manner and their fit on the door is regular. The process of changing the doorknob is straightforward and easy to do because all you will do is exchanging one to the other.
The very first thing to do would be to break open the new doorknob and also make sure all the necessary parts are not there. You'll see a list of them on the instruction page. Once you're certain that the set is complete it is time to take the old one apart. This is actually the metallic bit that sticks out of the doorway and can be drawn inside the doorway when the knob is turned. Now take a peek at the side of the doorway that does not have the lock, the one that is on the inner side of the doorway. Look at the bottom of the knob, close to the door itself, and you'll notice a small hole with a tiny bit of break inside of it. Have a key like the bit of metal that is included in the new doorknob place and put it in the small gap prying it open. Pull the doorknob out since you pry the gap until it comes out completely.
You'll have eliminated the cosmetic portion of the mechanism and the surgical part will be exposed. Against the door itself, you will notice a round piece of metal which is held in place by two big screws, remove the screws all of the way. Once done you will now find the inside of the wooden door and the part of the doorknob that goes through it. Push the opening and closing mechanism on the front of the doorway and at the exact same time pull the rest of the piece of this doorknob from the outside, it will slide out easily leaving a hole that goes through the doorway. After this is done, take the opening and closing mechanism and then slide it from the front of the doorway too. Now you have to reverse the process, place the opening and closing mechanism through the front of the door, be sure that the flat side of this mechanism looks to the side to which the door opens. If the door opens outwards the horizontal side should look outwards too, in case it opens into the inside the horizontal side should look inwards.
Find both big screws and the metal cap that goes on the inside and screw it in place. Make sure it's tight but not overly tight. Now put the screws onto the opening and closing mechanisms, again don't over tighten them, examine the doorknob again, there should be no hindrance or immunity. The surgical mechanism is in place, now it's time to finish the cosmetic area of the installationprocess. Just take the decorative plate that covers the mechanism and slips into place until it locks. Before placing in the cosmetic doorknob, lock the door and try the key without actually closing the doorway. The door should unlock and lock without major pressure or immunity.
If it functions correctly, closes the door and locks it, try the key again. If there is resistance or it's difficult to open, loosen the screws onto the front or on the cylinder affirms only a bit, a couple of turns should do it, try the door again, it should be okay.
